Digital Anthropologist
GILES CROUCH, PhD.,-c, Msc., MM
First off, I’m not an academic. Is digital anthropology a real thing? Yes. It is. It’s a subset of cultural anthropology. I work closely with businesses and governments to help them make sense of our digital world. How we use technologies, how societies and cultures are shaped by and then shape technologies.
I am regularly interviewed by news media and have been featured in WIRED, Forbes, National Geographic, CBC and CTV National News and many more. I speak at conferences on technology and culture and the future of humanity in a digital world.
My clients include the United Nations, Global Affairs Canada, Medicins Sans Frontiers, Black & Decker, Meta, Evernote, Bloomberg, John Deere, Kaiser Permanente, Cisco and many others.
I advise governments, Fortune 500 companies and global organizations on the geopolitical and sociocultural implications of technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, robotics, data governance, genetic engineering and so on. My work has informed foreign policy and corporate global strategies. For technology companies I help them with UX and market research, competitor analysis from online sources and brand analysis. In my marketing work, I have launched 15 technology products. I’m a polymath in a few ways.
